LCAL Welcomes New Members

The Department of Languages, Cultures & Applied Linguistics (LCAL) is pleased to welcome three new members, starting in January 2025.


Jungeun Kim, Adjunct Instructor, Korean Studies

Mathieu BerbiguierJungeun Kim brings extensive experience in Korean language instruction to Carnegie Mellon University, joining as an adjunct instructor in Korean Studies. Previously, she taught at the University of Pittsburgh for over four years, using immersive and communicative methods to engage students.

Kim also trains U.S. Special Forces for the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) test and emphasizes active participation in language learning. Her teaching philosophy integrates real-world communication and cultural exploration, fostering a dynamic and practical learning environment for students.


Emanuele Stefanori, Adjunct Instructor, Italian Studies

Giuseppina Gemboni Emanuele Stefanori brings a strong background in Italian language, literature and film to Carnegie Mellon University, joining as an adjunct lecturer in Italian Studies. He earned a Ph.D. in Romance Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he taught Italian at all levels and explored the role of technology in Italian crime fiction.

Stefanori has also taught Italian culture and cinema, with previous experience as a visiting instructor at the College of William & Mary. At CMU, he looks forward to engaging students in a dynamic exploration of Italian language and storytelling, teaching Elementary Italian I (82-161) and Technology in Italian Crime Fiction (82-165).


Stefani Taskas, Digital Learning Experience Developer

Sanghee KangStefani Taskas brings expertise in game design and educational technology to their role as Digital Learning Experience Developer. Working in The Kenner Room, the Modern Language Resource Center and Humanities Commons, they create immersive experiences for language learning and cultural exploration.

Taskas holds a Master of Entertainment Technology from CMU and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Game Design from Michigan State University. Passionate about the power of games in education, they develop interactive experiences across VR, mobile and tabletop platforms to deepen student engagement.
