Bio
With a love for international education and cultural exchange, Karen Richters (she/her) earned her bachelor’s degree in Global Studies and French Language & Literature from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK). After graduating, she taught English in Parisian primary schools and secondary schools in Martinique before returning to the U.S. to work as a marketing and outreach coordinator for the UTK Programs Abroad Office. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she transitioned to a role in Teaching & Learning Innovation and began her graduate studies in journalism and electronic media at UTK.
In 2023, Karen joined LCAL as the associate director of communications, developing and leading marketing and communications strategies for the department. She also manages LCAL’s e-newsletter, websites and social media while supporting event planning, outreach and student recruitment.
Outside of work, Karen enjoys exploring Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods and trails. In her free time, she loves cuddling with her cats, cycling, hiking and attending Pirates & Riverhounds (and soon Riveters) games.
